The Port of San Diego North Embarcadero Vision Project in San Diego, CA, USA, has broken ground, and lighting mock-ups were installed for viewing on June 27, 2013.

Here, Light Projects “Spiral Pole” designed by Leni Schwendinger, fabricated and engineered by Sigmalux. The pairs poles will progress along Broadway on a line to the Bay, its pier and Port Pavilion.

The sketches were drawn for the very first presentation to clients (the City of San Diego and the Port of San Diego) and the design was embraced fully. I was delighted and surprised. Photos of the real, physical twisting poles and fine-optic luminaires.

NightSeeing Berlin 2013, hosted by Theatrum Mundi took place on May 23. Around 60-participants joined the educational, illuminated stroll through Hansaviertal “city of tomorrow”.

For those of you who attended, this is an invitation to comment on the NightSeeing™, Navigate Your Luminous City feedback and guestbook.

If you have not attended a NightSeeing™, Navigate Your Luminous City event, view the website for a chronicle and information to learn about the next LightWalk or to book a Talk, Walk and Community Workshop, here.

Join us for NightSeeing Berlin: 2013 with Theatrum Mundi on May 23. Starting at Akademie Der Kunst, Leni Schwendinger will lead a LightWalk through the lights and shadows of the surrounding neighborhoods, riverside and streets.

TOUR DESCRIPTION:
As the sun sets, the Berlin 2013 LightWalk attendees will depart the Akademie der Künste, and amble through Hansaviertel, the remarkable, 1950’s, modernist, housing-estate project. This “city of tomorrow” features buildings by architects Alvar Aalto, Walter Gropius and Oscar Niemeyer. After crossing the river Spree via the Hansabridge and its impressive vistas, our intrepid urban hikers will enter the historical section of inner-city Moabit along the northern promenade. A special treat, the unusual variety of street lighting — from historical gas-lights to newly implemented LED lamps — will be discussed. Glancing at the remnants of the historically significant, stone Borsigbridge, built in 1905, we will end the tour at the ProMo Bar at Dortmunder Strasse 8.
